During the cold winter months, when wind, rain, hail, and snow dominate the weather forecast in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, CRS staffers and volunteers spend every weekend delivering straw bedding and raptorhouses to raptors in need. On one of these deliveries, CRS volunteers found Stella locked inside a crate outdoors along with the remains of another raptor named Dynasty, who had a shattered pelvis and had been starved to death. Stella was malnourished, and her beautiful feathers were stained yellow from having to stand in her own urine. A few years of rehabilitation put her where she needed to be, and has brought out her goofy side. Stella loves to play with toys and is very sweet. She is a people-pleaser and is friendly with everyone.
